22 | Breastfeeding in the Army with Megan Gephart

On episode 22 of the Cycles and Sanctity Podcast, we hear from Megan Gephart about her breastfeeding journey, including pumping while on a field training course and in all kinds of far-from-ideal environments,
Megan is a Catholic mother of two boys, an active-duty army officer, a life coach, a pre and postnatal fitness coach, and an advocate for mothers and families in the military. She's a West Point graduate, currently serving in the military in a public relations and strategic communications role.
Though we discuss the breastfeeding challenges involved in the military, we know that this is a challenge for any woman that is working outside of the home and doing the work that she is being called to do. Megan touches on the spiritual dimension of breastfeeding in her parting thoughts, so be sure to listen to the end.

We continue with our theme of breastfeeding with an interview with Vicki Valencia (RN, BSN, IBCLC). She is a Labor and Delivery Nurse, La Leche League Leader, and a mother of 8.
In this episode, we hear more about La Leche League and IBCLC and their origins. We hear about Vicki's experience with breastfeeding and NFP, and how she got involved with LLL. We talk about exclusive breastfeeding, weaning, tandem nursing, hormones, nursing in public, birthing, postpartum, and much more.

This week is World Breastfeeding Week and in the US we celebrate Breastfeeding for the whole month of August. So we begin our series on Breastfeeding with an interview with Gina Peterson, IBCLC, and Executive Director of Catholic Nursing Mothers League.
We hear about Gina’s story - how she became an IBCLC and her experience of breastfeeding, NFP, and natural child spacing. We discuss the benefits of breastfeeding and how dads can support mothers during this time. We also hear about the Catholic Nursing Mothers League, and more in this episode.

16 | Celebrating Humanae Vitae and St. Pope Paul VI

Welcome to episode 16 of the Cycles & Sanctity podcast, where we are talking about the encyclical Humanae Vitae by Pope Paul VI, a little bit of church history, and a little bit about world history. 
 
We dive into the history and societal movement of contraception and Christian Churches. We also look at the Second Vatican Council that Pope John XXIII began, and Pope Paul VI continued. I mention the book Love & Responsibility that Cardinal Carol Wojtyla (St. Pope John Paul II) wrote in 1960, among others.

15 | Billings and NFP Outreach with Sue Ek

Welcome to episode 15 of the Cycles & Sanctity Podcast, where I have the pleasure of interviewing Sue Ek, Director of Communications at NFP Outreach. We met through BOMA-USA when I was interested in becoming a Billings Instructor. Listen in, as Sue describes her impressions of Dr. John and Evelyn Billings and some of the history of how their work came to be. Sue shares her path into being involved with NFP and a bit of her experience of teaching the Billings method. 
 
We get a brief overview of how Billings and the team got invited to China and the impact there. We also hear the benefits Sue's seen in couples practicing NFP. Sue talks about the relationship between the Billings method and the encyclical Humanae Vitae, and much more in this episode. She ends with encouragement for those interested in becoming a Billings instructor - more teachers are needed.

On episode 14 of the Cycles and Sanctity Podcast, Mama Jane leads us through a discovery of Who We Are and reminds us that each of us is God's masterpiece. She explains the difference between being children of God and creatures of God. 
 
Mama Jane reflects on her own experiences of feeling alone and shares what Saint Pope John Paul II refers to as Original Solitude. She also shares her personal experience with depression and how God's love led to her healing and freedom.
 
We hear about a particular group coaching session where Mama Jane was coached, and how she experienced an incredible prayer time with our Lord shortly after that, with powerful images and words that led her to be filled with peace.
